His passion for high grade horology dates back to 1982 when - with the money originally destined to his college fees - he bought his first vintage watch, a Rolex Daytona, Paul Newman dial, for as much as US$ 390!!
Soon passion turned into profession, attending regularly antique markets worldwide. Present on the roman market until fall 1994 with his "historical" office situated in Piazza di Spagna, he has been among the organisers, as "head of the clock and watches department of the renowned auction house "Affare Fatto" owned by the Banca di Roma.
Since then the main office, workshop and gallery, of his organisation are located in Via della Stelletta, in historical downtown Rome, two steps from Piazza Navona and the Pantheon.
Many years of experience and having owned thousand of timepieces among the rarest make Alessandro Ciani one of the most authoritative and representative voices of the local as well as the Italian market.
His continuos search for rare and prestigious collectables, especially Patek Philippe and Rolex, with particular attention for complications - split second, perpetual calendars, repeaters - together with a throughout knowledge of worldwide markets, including North America and Japan, make him a reference point for those who search rare and high grade timepieces.
He deals with watches of any make, as long as of collecting interest, this includes also selected modern, pocket watches, table clocks from the beginning of the century on, and all kinds of watch related gadgets.
At last but not least, a real watch making laboratory is part of the structure under the supervision of Riccardo Francioli and Anthony Mc Gonigle. The workshop is specialised in accurate complete restaurations as well as guaranteed periodical overhauls, avoiding to send watches out to less known assistance centers.
